Domestic Violence

EVERY 9 SECONDS A WOMAN IS BEATEN OR ASSAULTED AND 3 WOMEN A DAY ARE KILLED FROM DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN THE UNITED STATES

Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence, Battering, Abuse … there are many words used to describe this situation.
Someone we love or care about, if that person harms us emotionally or physically, it can be devastating.

PLEASE KNOW THAT YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Using violence to control other people’s behavior is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Everybody deserves a life free of violence.
NO ONE has the right to control, emotionally or physically abuse another!
No matter what the situation is, no one causes another person to abuse. Abuse is always the choice of the abuser.

In all relationships disagreements occasionally happen, but battering invades every aspect of a relationship with anxiety and control.
Battering cannot be described as a couples quarrel, because no quarrel warrants abuse.

The Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP) exists because battering by an intimate partner is the single greatest cause of injury to women. The sufferings of the abused has been well documented as a significant public health concern.

You are Smart and Beautiful

The victims sometimes come to shelter to find out if they are “sick or crazy”. Well, they are not. You aren’t going crazy; you are just having a normal reaction to trauma and a crazy situation.

The thinking that "Am i going crazy?" comes because people around you thinks like that and it effects your thinking, and others reaction seems hurtful because they don’t understand what you are going through.

Crazy-making happens in every abusive relationship when the abuser lies, denies, and/or minimizes the abuse and blames you for the violence.

If you feel uncomfortable with talking to someone for your situation, it is OK to look for support elsewhere.

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF........
It is proven that violence in domestic violence relationships
can lead to more life threatening and tragic consequences,
and a woman’s risk of a domestic violence homicide increases
By 500% when a gun is present in the home.

Please support newly introduced bi-partisan
Domestic Violence Records Reporting Improvement Act of 2017,
to keep domestic abusers from buying guns. The bill would provide incentives to states when
reporting domestic violence to the (NICS) National instant Criminal Background Check System,
and provide more accessible grants to carry this out. According to the
National Network to End Domestic Violence,"The NICS system has effectively blocked over 2
million prohibited buyers from purchasing a firearm, including individuals convicted of domestic violence.
